Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel is a UNESCO-listed site on Lake Nasser famous for two massive rock-cut temples built for Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, relocated in the 1960s to save them from rising water.

  • Great Temple of Ramses II – colossal façade and solar alignment (around Feb 22 / Oct 22)
  • Temple of Hathor & Nefertari – smaller but finely decorated
  • Sound-and-light show – optional evening interpretation

Typically visited from Aswan by convoy bus or short flight; plan a half or full day.
