Siwa Oasis

Far in Egypt's Western Desert near the Libyan border, Siwa is a Berber-speaking oasis of palm groves, salt lakes, and mud-brick architecture unlike the Nile Valley.

  • Shali Fortress – ruined mud-brick citadel above the town
  • Oracle of Amun – hilltop site linked to Alexander the Great
  • Cleopatra's Pool & hot springs – popular swims (check access)
  • Fatnas Island & Taghaghien Island – sunset views over the oasis
  • Desert drives – Great Sand Sea and dunescapes

Allow long road time or a domestic flight plus transfer; distances are large.
