Cairo

Cairo is Egypt's capital and the usual gateway to the country, set along the Nile with layers of pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic heritage beside a busy modern city.

  • Giza Plateau – the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx
  • Egyptian Museum (Tahrir) – royal mummies and Tutankhamun treasures (check current location vs GEM)
  • Islamic Cairo & Khan el-Khalili – mosques, minarets, and the famous souq
  • Coptic Cairo – the Hanging Church and early Christian sites
  • Nile Corniche – walks, cafés, and optional felucca rides

Allow at least two full days for the main sights before flying or driving onward.
